Answer by Diamondseo
Links pointing to your site is considered a vote by the search engines. The site with the most positive votes wins!

This has changed a bit recently as one-way links are much more important than exchanged links. The ideal way to obtain one way relevant links is:

Directories: Try to find some odd directories that are like your site.

Articles: Write informative articles and have them distributed. The more sites print your article online, the more links it will generate.

Press Releases: Press Releases, if submitted to the right press release directory, will create high quality inbound links for your site.

Question by Hellfirehound:
Clicking a link in a search engine takes me to porn?
I have IE7 running on XP. We have found a problem that we cant seem to fix.

Whenever we search for something on the world wide web via a search engine (Google or altavista) it come up with the relevant search results. We typed in myspace and it came up with the official link (http://www.myspace.com). When you click on it, it scoots off to porn or some other undesirable website other than myspace. The same happens for friendfinder and even my own website that sells t-shirts.

Ive been using the net for 10 years now so i know what im doing, but this has me baffled! Antivirus and spyware checks reveal nothing. deleting addons that arent necessary dont help either and erasing unused programs produces the sam result.

Any ideas?
For the benefit of Ben and Jorge….re-read the question! Ive done spyware and virus scans and they came back clean. Im not that stupid that i wouldnt do them first. Oh and Ben, think before you talk eh?

——————————————

Answer by ben45750
obviously you do not know what your doing? You have a virus. Uninstall IE and delete all the associated files and re-install and stop surfing the porn, thats where your getting virus’s from.

——————————————

Question by Namine07:
Every time I run a search on google or bing and hit a link I get redirected?
I have noticed that when I run a search on my personal (on google or bing which are the only two search engines I have used) when I click on a link I get redirected to a page which has a definition of what I was searching for, and sponsored links. I suspect this is malware. it happens on both of my browsers (firefox and IE). I already ran a Norton 360 virus scan and it came up with nothing, and the problem still persists. Help me!!!

Answer by MLM
Try running your scans again in Safe Mode if you have not already done so. To get into Safe Mode, reboot and then either hold down or tap the F8 key repeatedly while the personal is starting up.

You did not indicate which antispyware products you ran but you can try these. All are free. Download and check for updates prior to going to Safe Mode.

Question by Richard K:
Will my legit website be negatively affected if I run a text link to an on the web gaming website?
I have a small business and website for it that is ad free. I do sales and fixes on classic arcade and pinball machines. Will it affect my site in a negative way (with search engine placement etc) if I run a text link to an on the web gaming website? These sites want to pay me for a text link, but I do not want my site to come across as malicious in any way.

——————————————

Answer by Raysoor
Do you think your visitors would like to see an advert for an on the web gaming company? If you want an ethical site then just answer this question honestly.
Also look at the ad revenue you might receive from Adsense as compared to this direct ad. If you are going to advertise you might as well get the most money. You might be surprised how good Adsense really is. Also you need to find out if the link will be nofollow. If you think the SEs will not like the link then make sure it is nofollow.
Also check your stats. closely after you run the ad. Use Statcounter (free)

Question by sircarpediem:
What is going on that I cant click on anything in google and go to the site of the link?
I do a search, find what I want, and when I click on the link it goes to another site. Ive tried yahoo, and many other search engines. Does the same thing and on occasion I get these words on a page:

Deny Page of Search Engine Script. Code 001 CE24H

I cant even search as to what it is because again it happens when I search something. Im scanning for bots, trojans, and any other malicious tools and viruses but no matter what I do for now I cant search for what I need and Im a search engine whore…

Someone search this for me, driving me nuts… Thanks..
Putting the link to the site I want in the browser just to view it isnt the cure its the pain in the a**. Im aware of how I can view it. Like I stated I use google about 20-50 times a day. So this task multiplied Im completely aware of too well. I would like someone to come up with the cure, the resolve, a way for me to be able to destroy whatever is causing this to happen. Thanks..

——————————————

Answer by pickle
Hi there, I am having the same problem as well. It started up after I Immunized on Spybot Search and Destroy. What you can do to get around this though (for the time being) is just right click the link and copy the address then paste it into the browser to open it manually. Everything works fine, I just cannot seem to get redirected from google or yahoo without that error page or without being redirected to a completely different search engine (that I have never heard of). I will report back if I figure this out, good luck!

——————————————

Question by Wayne S:
Does hiding part of an outgoing link code effect a website’s search engine ranking?
This script in the body of the page

This code is put in the actual link:
onMouseOver=”message(‘Stop Smoking’);return true” onMouseOut=”message(”);return true”

——————————————

Answer by thmbr
no javascript has no effect in SE ranking, I have heard that some SEs are following js generated links(not proven) but I doubt that it will actually have an impact in SE positioning

——————————————
