Is there HTML code from Yahoo or Google?
Do I have to suffer ads?
Back in the old days, for Yahoo hosting, one simply incorporated some Yahoo HTML code in their website (built with FrontPage). Now using MS WebExpressions on Yahoo host.

No database is to be created and thus SQL codes is not needed. We are granted to use php and html codes only.
The site is just full of information. I need search engine to search the site. Let’s say, user types in “a” and the search engine would search the whole site of information for the letter “a” then display the results out. Cannot use a text file also. Strictly php and html codes only.

Question by tumtum:
Are Dynamic jsp pages search engine compatible? iF not what to do? How to convert to HTML with meta tag?
I am a web developer and I use j2ee technology. But the pages are all dynamic. Unless people request them specifically, they do not get built. I am guessing that the search engine will not pick it up. So, what is the most widely used method of making these search enginer friendly pages? Do developers have a process to build these interactive pages into static HTML pages? If they do, is there a good tool to use? thanks

Answer by Brian
It really depends on how your page works, if you are passing variables through links it likely will not be very search engine friendly even though Google doesn’t seem to mind anymore.

Question by John C:
learning html, perl, for building web sites from scratch, how do I build a search engine without plaigarism?

——————————————

Answer by Martyr2
Well first of all, I would state that if you are just learning HTML and Perl, you might want to hold off on a search engine for a tiny while. A good search engine tends to be a tiny more advanced for a beginner.

In any case, plagiarism is the act of duplicating something that someone has already written. To avoid this, read the content and put whatever writing you do into your own words (paraphrase). In software design, you are more likely to run into problems with copyright/patents. Taking some technology that someone developed and calling it your own.

In that situation again, download some code, look at how they reached it, perhaps think of things to make it better, then set out to write your own code. Use their code as merely a guide, but do not copy their code word for word. In some situations, there is only one ‘good’ way to do something (like looping through a record set) in which case you will have to do it the same as they did it. But no one can fault you for something like that.

When it comes to learning web technologies, you always have to look at someone else’s example. It is the only true way you can learn. But as long as you keep your intentions good, do not just read but apply what you learn, write your own stuff, you will be perfectly safe on the net.

——————————————

Question by stephen:
How do I embed a search engine friendly permanent redirect script into a .html page?

Thanks for your help. Maybe I should use a .htaccess file in each directory instead. What code should I put into it and where should it go?

——————————————

Answer by some nickname
Unfortunately, it’s not possible.

Some people will tell you that using a meta-refresh in the head section will work, but it is not the ideal approach for most search engines.

A few years back when we were all trying to get our pages to the top of the search engines one of the most common black-hat methods was using doorway pages with redirect scripts (meta tags or javascript). Unfortunately the process worked so well that most search engine algorithms now ignore the redirects, or worse penalize you for using them.

“A meta refresh tag automatically directs an World wide web user to a new web page. Spammers commonly develop a page for a particular keyword phrase, insert a meta refresh tag and then submit that page to the search engines. Anyone clicking through to this page from its listing in a search engine will be automatically taken to a different page. Often, the “final” page people reach has tiny content relating to the keyword phrase. To combat this, some search engines will not accept pages with a fast meta refresh rate.

If a meta refresh tag is to be used, it is suggested that it should be set no sooner than 30 seconds. With a fast meta refresh tag, some search engines will end up ignoring the first page and index the second instead.

Search engines might also reject pages that use JavaScript to perform redirection. For legitimate redirection, server-side redirection is an acceptable format.”

The only search engine friendly way to redirect is on the server side, not the client side.

The ideal method is using an .htaccess 301 redirect.

Though if all you are concerned about is search engine position, do not worry about the redirect. Focus on targetted relevant inbound text links, here is a great site to help improve your position:

http://www.textlinkbrokers.com

Here’s a bit about how to use .htaccess to create a 301 redirect:

Implementing a 301

You’ll need to download the .htaccess file from your web site which can be found in the root of the /docs directory via ftp. If a .htacess file is not present, create one with Notepad or a similar text editor. Ensure you remember the “.” at the beginning of the file name and do not use a tail extension

If there is a .htaccess file already in existence with lines of code present, be very careful not to change any existing code. It’s probably wise to create a backup of this file in case you make a mistake.

Scroll down to the end of the current code, miss a line and then create a new line using the following example as a guide.

redirect 301 /current/currentname.htm http://www.you.com/newfolder/newname.htm

Here’s the page for that:

http://www.help.thinkhost.com/web-development/scripts/redirecting_192.html

(Please vote for me as ideal answer).

——————————————
