Question by Silver Fox:
how do i stop my search engine from being redirected?
Example: Using world wide web explorer, I used the google box and entered “sheraton htels in savannah georgia”. It gave me the normal page of listings but when I clicked on one of the listings, it redirected (from what I can see it stated Mainstream) to this page http://pages.us.com/a.php?x=Jm09YiZ1PTIwJmI9aG90ZWwgaW4gc2F2YW5uYWgmcz1BJnA9aG90ZWwgaW4gc2F2YW5uYWg%3D&feed=4

I have AVG and am running all of the components and it shows me nothing. It is very annoying.

——————————————

Answer by ƒïṿε ḋøllαɾ ƒøøτ løṉģ
Most attacks (pc wise) are aimed at world wide web explorer. I have not used it in about 7 years. I would advocate firefox, and keeping unsavory people off your pc. If your problem persists, get highjackthis, run a scan and post a scan log, others can then help you find the rogue program making your life hell. Just keep in mind once you “fix” it with highjackthis, it’s gone for good, so be careful.

——————————————

Question by madmilker:
Why does this search engine delete a question from this site that only asked?
Is Wal-Mart with the “star” in the name a “short” play on Wall Street?
It did not ask why they took the “hyphen” from the name and replaced it with a huge “single” star! If this is an American Company (search engine) maybe there is more to what is wrong with America than a few short plays and kicking a CEO in the a!! for not letting free speech run its course.
People think superior when they have something to think about not when they think about something to delete off of a search engine board that do not have a thing to do with showing no respect to an American Company that sells cheap crap.

Question by GSG:
I’m using a script in my .htaccess file which points all links from my “non-www” site to my www site.
I’m using:

# Start non-www page protection #
<IfModule mod_rewrite.c>
RewriteEngine On
RewriteBase /
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !^www\.mysite\.com [NC]
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://www.mysite.com/$ 1 [L,R=301]
</IfModule>
# End non-www page protection #

Is this the correct format, and will all links now point just to the www version just from the time that I do this and upload the new .htaccess file, or will all links (and the page rank boost associated with it) become retrospective? Will I see a boost in rank immediately?

I’ve also heard that the search engines see a www.mysite.com version and a www.mysite.com/ version. Will my script take care of this as well, or do I have to add something else? (I cannot see whether the script does this or not as I am not a coder!)

For .co.uk domains do I just alternative .co.uk for .com in each case?

——————————————

Answer by Civic SEO
RewriteEngine on
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^yourdomain\.co.uk$ [NC]
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://www.yourdomain.co.uk/$ 1 [R=301,L]

That above is the only code you need to redirect non-www to www in your .htaccess file. Yes you can change *.com to *.co.uk to get the same results, I made the code already valid for that. Change “yourdomain” to your domains name.

Yes, this will prevent duplicate content issues with search engines regarding two URLs having the same content. All non-www requests will be 301 redirected to their www counterpart. Results will take time, you might not even yeild none but a more proper internal link structure.

——————————————

its ok if you cannot answer all of my q’s
thanx in advance!

——————————————

Answer by Adrian
Well, in theory, most legitimate bots are supposed to read the robots.txt file in your root folder, and skip any files (or folders) listed there.

I do it a bit more complicated. Besides using the robots.txt, I have a LInux-based router looking at actual content, so if I see any packet going by with the folder or file name I want hidden (and it is hidden), I automatically add the source IP to my blacklist and ban that IP in my frewall…they can read nothing anymore… Since whatever bot it was is acting “bad” , I do not want it ever back again. Of course, I permit my own IP or a selected few IPs through first, so at least I can get to it.

Sorry that does not answer your question direct. It’s just I thought I’d explain my method of banning unwanted bots (the ones that dis-obey the robots.txt). It’s simple to set a trap directory that has nothing in it, and putting it into the robots.txt, then trapping it.

——————————————

Answer by Sitander S
Hye I am working with google adsense from last 5 years.

According to his guideline you might also design your own search engine google seach setup give you facility for this but you will not use copyright name like google search, not to force people to make search.

ok…

Question by b down:
Is it possible to hide certain text from search engine results?
I’ve built some webpages which have my first and last name in the body of the text. Is it possible to hide my name somehow from spidering search engine trackers.

This has happened before, when I google my name a lot of pages come up that I do not want to see.
thanks!

——————————————

Answer by Eyecheck
You can put the text inside a fake attribute, for example:

There can me more that one solution. For example, you can: * exclude the page with the robots.txt file * print the data with an external JavaScript and exclude only the JavaScript file with the robots.txt * use AJAX to load the content of the text section from an external source

——————————————
