HOW DO I ADD MY WEBSITE TO SEARCH ENGINES LIKE GOOGLE, YAHOO, AOL?

I recently built a website, but I do not know how to go about getting it to come up in a search engine. I have looked it up on search engines (“how do I add my URL to a search engine”), but the only responses I am coming up with are those that require a fee. Is it possible to get my site to be found by a search engine without paying a fee?

Question by Aspurtaime Dog Sneeze: Question about domains and search engine rankings? I am building a website for a realtor. It seems that if the domain contains the search words (e.g “homes” and “Denver” and “realtor” to denverrealtor.com or denverhomes.com) it would rank higher in search engines than those with those words only as metatags.

From my understanding, your website will pop up in search engines based on how many people visit your website (but how people visit your website if it’s not in a search engine ) Ironic right???

hi, for google you can submit your url to them directly. this service is free-of-charge. However, chances are they won’t take a second look at your website because there are simply too many submissions every day.
for yahoo, you are required to pay them a submission fee and there is NO guarantee that they will list your website.
tough luck, huh?
the best way to get a listing is to work hard on SEO and lure the search engine spiders to your websites. good luck!

You should search SEO on google and do some reading.
Your site is probably already in google. Do as search for your domain name.
You dont add your site via the search engine, the search engine find your site through back links. Other sites that are in the SE who link to your site, will tell the SE that your site lives there and has XYZ content.

For Google you can go here http://www.google.com/addurl/ to add your site. You can do a search like “add my site to ??(search engine you prefer)” and you should be able to find what you are looking for, that is what I did to find google’s. Hope that helped.

You can go to the engines and submit yourself, but the best way to get listed instantly without a wait is to run an Adwords or Yahoo advertising account.
While submitting to engines is tempting and you want to get the word out to the spiders you will gain more points with the engines if they find you first. If you are low on money there are free ways to be found by the engines.
Submit articles to free article sites with your link embedded in the author section or you can post comments on blogs with your URL as a signature. You can also find free diretories to list your site in being they rely on human submissions for their listings. The engines search the web daily and grab millions of sates, so the more places you put your site, the more points you’ll get.
Oh … you can post your link on your Answers profile too. Make sure they are hyperlinks or the spiders won’t see you.
Good luck!

You already have some good answers for getting traffic to your website, however most of those will take from a few days to weeks, and even months. One of the quckest ways I have found to getting your site crawled by the search engines is through linking, but just any link. You want to link to a site that has a high page rank typically ranked 5 or above. I have seen sites using this technique get indexed in a matter of just a few hours.
I actually work with an article content company that provides over 200 content rich articles every month that I use as content on some of my sites. One of the benefits with this company is that get to link to 30 of their website blogs, each one with a high page rank. You can get more details from my source link. Now here are a few ways to get traffic to your site for Free.
If you have a tight budget, and you need to increase website traffic, there are a few things you can do. If you have not figured it out yet, starting a web site can strain your pocket book as you pay the necessary expenses for maintaining and promoting your site. Free traffic may be the very thing you need right now. It may seem too good to be true, but it is not. Even though you may not be making a monetary investment in this free traffic, it will require some of your chief assets; your time, energy, and creativity, so be ready to put forth some effort.
• Links
Getting links with other sites has been proven to be a great way to increase website traffic. Contact sites that have similar content, and is compatible with your site. as your site. Ask the site owner if they are willing to post your link and offer to post theirs on your site. By doing this little task, you will both increase your web traffic and boost your search engine rankings. You may have seen some automated ways of exchanging links, but you may want to avoid those methods. The routing of those links can impact its effectiveness. I use a company called Article Underground that I receive over 200 keyword rich articles to use as content for my websites. One of the benefits with this company is that they have over 30 blogs all with high page rank that you
can link to your website. This benefit alone is worth the monthly subscription fee. check it out at characters:

Providing content for other websites can help increase traffic to your own. If you can write, you have a great resource for drawing links to your site, by providing content for other sites, and linking back to your site. Do not hesitate to contact local directory websites, trade associations, or any other web site that may link to your site.
• SEO
Search engine optimization is not always a ‘free’ method. You can put a lot of money into an SEO strategy.
However, by supplying your site with quality conten containing
keywords, posting a keyword enhanced blog, and increasing
links with other sites, you can boost your rankings and find more and more visitors arriving at your web site.
When you develop a strategy for your website that cooperates with the search engines and caters to your visitors, it will provide you with a solid foundation that can give you business growth for years to come.
• Networking
Never forget about good old fashion networking to get targeted traffic to your website. Forums are quickly becoming very popular for developing contacts. Whether you are doing business in person, or chatting online, use the
opportunity to network with people you come into contact with. Infiltrate your local and your online community and get to know your competition as well as your clients or buyers. You may not be able to bond as well in an online community, but it is a great place to meet people, learn about what is new, and get the news out about your web site.
Free traffic may not be free in the true sense of the word, in that you still need to invest time and energy.
As an entrepreneur, you may feel that your time is too valuable for some of these methods, but the pay off can be HUGE.
Develop a strategy for using these free traffic techniques, and chip away at it as you can. Over time you will see that you have built a thriving business.

The following article will prove helpful to you in streamlining your SEO metatags in order to attract more Net traffic by higher search engine placement.
The most effective way to advertise on the Internet is
to first set up a website and publish its domain name
on major search directories such as Google.com,
Yahoo.com [at http://www.google.com/addurl/?...... and
MSN.com since 85% of Internet shoppers rely on these
search directories to provide them with goods and
services. In a sense, these search directories are a
very large Internet Yellow Pages.
Nevertheless, should your website or opening webpage
fail to contain "generic" keywords, then anyone using
such "generic" queries will not be able to discover
your website. Your domain name [URL] of your website,
in a sense, will be invisible, undiscoverable.
You may want to consider some simple algorithms which,
when observed and committed in designing of a website
with placement of various critical metatags that can
surely achieve a high search engine presence and
increase Internet traffic to your website. These
metatag strategies work well with published webpages
at Google and Yahoo.
Design: Should you create an extensive Flash-based
website, make sure to fill-in the property entries
such as the Title, Description and Keywords. Failing
to do so, leaves no hard HTML or ALT resource that can
be readily indexed by search robots. Also consider the
Internet audience and their incoming setup. For
example, if they are on analog/dialup, Flash webpages
take too long to load up and therefore analog users
will likely lose interest and discontinue entering the
Flash site. On the other hand, anyone on hi-speed DSL
lines, will welcome Flash pages which load quickly. So
before designing a pure Flash websitge, ask the simple
question, “Who’s my end user – is he on dialup or
DSL?” And if you had to choose between these two users
for maximum marketability, then select analog users
since 80% of most resident users are still analog
Internet subscribers and pure HTML designed webpages
is best for them.
A non-Flash-based website which relies on hard text,
is far easier to be indexed by search robots. Limit
the use of stylized text saved as .gifs since as a
graphic, they are not indexable by search robots.
Avoid use of frames since any number of search robots
are unable to properly classify textual material.
Placement of Metatags:
A ranking or search order does take place with Google
and Yahoo and it begins with the “Title” metag which
should consist of no more than 60 characters separated
by commas. The “Title” should describe in generic terms, the goods and services, followed by a location from which the resource is located, i.e., city, state. The placement of a domain name which is not generic within the “Title” is not appropriate, unless your
domain name is a major recognizable brand name.
The second metatag is the “Description” which is
usually up to 41 words to form a complete paragraph which
best describes one’s goods and services. It is not merely a list.
And the very last category – “Keywords” are also
somewhat limited to 15 words which can be plural
and compound in nature. Again, avoid multiple entries
which could be mistaken as “spamdexed entries” which
is defined as the loading, and submission of
repetitive words into a particular metatag category.
“Spamdexing” when discovered on a webpage and reported
to Google’s spamreport.com can result in the
elimination of your website from their search
directory.
Here’s an example of a very highly-placed website on
Google.com: Begin with the very “generic” search query
“sandwiches downtown los angeles,” taking note to not
abbreviate Los Angeles to “LA” and of course, leave
out the parentheses (“). It will bring up some 2.4
million+ search results. Check out where “Nazos.net”
is ranked. It’s on the FIRST FRONT PAGE [ranked #5]!
Again, Nazos.net’s high web presence was achieved by
proper web design and placement of relevant metatags
according to Google’s publication guidelines.
Good luck!
