Whenever I perform a search on any search engine, when I click on the results links I get redirected.?
The tab will state either “jump” or “redirect” and I end up on a search results page for some obscure search engine I have never heard of, or I might end up at a website that is somewhat relevant to my initial search, or I could end up at a website that has nothing at all to do with what I am looking for. I cannot click the search results link and make it to the correct URL. It is driving me nuts. I have all the current updates and have run Ad-Aware and Norton and have come up with nothing. PLEASE can someone help me???

Hi DJ,
What you have here is a Spyware/Adware problem. There are numerous programs available for eliminating this nuisance, however the ideal one I have found to date is called Spybot-Search and Destroy which is 100% free. You might also want to clean out your cookies and history files before attempting to remove the pest. A good rule of thumb is to run this each week, to stop these from re-migrating back into your computer. Not too long ago, I (foolishly) downloaded software to put a design on my Facebook page. Maybe it’s coincidence, maybe not, but ever since, my IE opens up to a Softonic search engine instead of Google.

I removed what I thought was the software for the design on my Facebook page, and the design itself is gone. But the Softonic search is still there. I have also run my antispyware and antivirus software, and my personal comes back clean. But everything I have tried to remove this Softonic is not working.

I’ve gone to the top right corner of my IE, clicked on “Tools,” and looked for anything ‘Softonic-related’ to disable. Cannot find a thing. Does anyone have any advice on what to do to remove this darn thing?

I comprehend that your home page is changed. If this is the problem then go to google.com using the web-browser and you will be prompted for making it the home page. If you are not prompted then go to Tools > Options and from the Options window you can choose the home page by clicking the button ‘Current Page’. This sets your home page to google.

You have to register with the search engines before your site will show up.
Try going here:

http://search.yahoo.com/info/submit.html

And click on the “submit your site for free” link.
All of the other search engines are the same.

That is not necessarily true. Even though it is smart to have your keywords in your domain name, its not proven either way if it helps you or not.

The ideal way to get good SEO is to maximize your top 5 keywords in:

Title
Alt Images
Keywords
Meta Tags

One of the biggest things Google looks at (besides PR) is Keywords in Title. Focus on generic broad keywords.

“homes” or “denver” will not get your listed. There are way to many websites that have good PR that will blow your website out of the water. Instead use

“Denver Relocation”
“Homes in the Denver area”
“Moving to Denver”
“Purchasing a home in Denver”

etc….

I have a website with a lot of pages each titled with different subjects. If a visitor searches for one of those subjects, it will look for the page with those keywords in it, and redirect to the page that is in the mysql database. Like Wikipedia.

Does anyone know how i could accomplish this? Please help. Thanks.

suppose you are folder structure is like this:
index.php
search.php
pages/
-page1
-page2

and you are search form is submitted to search.php. Than you are search.php have to look something like this:

$ page = $ _REQUEST['page']; //get the search string
$ page = htmlspecialchars($ page); //create a safe string (probably you will need some more validation)

//if the file exists, redirect, and exit this script
if (file_exists(“pages/”.$ page.”.php”))
{

Yeah, thanks Crash. Makes sense. I changed it back, but I know the dang software is still on my harddrive somewhere. For now, this will have to do.

I only know of bots and the variants as client-side, not server-side, but I am sure code exists for server-side. Obviously, my choice for web applications would be Java. Any more, it takes a lot of finesse to crawl a server because so many now block bots and spyders.

None of the search engines I have used give me the option to select Build Your Own as a major. I was wondering if anyone knows a search engine I could use.

Perhaps try student designed or self designed major. Maybe independent study? My college listed it as student-designed.
